A fun way for children to gain visual and spoken Hebrew

word recognition, as well as learning how to create simple sentences

An exciting way for children to learn

vocabulary, gain familiarity with simple sentence structure,

gain the ability to apply some rules in use of gender

plus use of nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

Engages children in active participation in the learning experience

The  self-paced lessons are designed to provide positive feedback throughout the lesson.

Children ages 7 and up. These units build on materials

learned in our software package "First Steps in Learning Hebrew".

SKILLS LEARNED

  • Learn the words as you play the game of 'Simon Says'. Hebrew names for parts of the body (singular and plural) are  immediately reinforced as children drag the 'hands' in response to Simon's spoken commands.

  • Play a 'review game' after each group of six words.

  • As words are said aloud, practice spelling the words you've learned  by typing them.   The picture on the screen provides a visual cue of the words meaning.

  • Through both oral and visual activities, present tense verbs are learned and used in simple sentences.

  • Use the word רוצה  with a pronoun to ask a question or make a simple declarative sentence.

  • Using the verbs for seeing, hearing, reading - early recognition of verb patterns increases vocabulary quickly as students expand their ability to create sentences, adding pronouns and prepositions.

  • The Snake Detective, נחש בּלש,  gives more clues to increase reading proficiency of Modern Hebrew as it is written with partially vocalized text . Emphasizes reading for meaning.

      More Details:
  • The presentation of each new verb is followed by individual drills.

  • Understand the use of the  letter ת at the end of a word when marking the feminine form of a verb.

  • Comprehend the change of form of final letters to medial letters when a verb changes from the masculine form to the feminine form in the present tense.

  • In a scored game, first build two-syllable words, then three syllable words as you label boxes in Hebrew. Boxes on a moving conveyor belt are labeled in English. Translate into Hebrew to choose your syllables.

  • Practice reading words with the letters ע and ח at the end of the word.
