SETTING UP YOUR COMPUTER FOR HEBREW FONTS

 

For initial set-up (This insures that the Hebrew displays properly).

Carry out these steps even though you may already have other Hebrew programs on your computer.

 

Please read all of the following instructions before running the software.

 

When using this software for the first time you should be logged on with Administrator privileges.

NOTICE: If you are working on a computer that has run an earlier version of this software, Please search for the file: HFAprvSetup.txt and delete the file. Then proceed with the following.

 

Please follow the steps in this order:

Read the instructions below for initial set-up to display Hebrew properly. This is important when using any of the flashcard programs in this software.

 NOTE: THESE INSTRUCTIONS ASSUME YOU ARE WORKING ON WINDOWS XP, VISTA/WINDOWS 7 .

 

(IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 2000 THE PROCEDURE IS VERY MUCH THE SAME.)

 

[If you're not sure which Operating System your computer is using, click with your right mouse button on "My computer". ("My Computer" is located on the DESKTOP, i.e. the screen with all your icons on it.) Then click on "Properties" with your left mouse button and you will see which "system" you have.]

 

Note to: WINDOWS XP USERS (and Vista Users)

If the vowels under the Hebrew letters don’t display properly in the Flashcard Program) DO THE FOLLOWING: (Vista – 64 bit users may need to contact support@hebrewmedia.com)

  1. Click on your START button.

  2. Open the control panel. (On some machines the choice may be labeled  "settings".

  3. Click on the Regional and Language" option

  4. Click on the language tab.

  5. Under "Supplemental Language Support" click on the check box for "Install Files for complex Script and Right-to-Left Languages. (This will put in the Hebrew.)

  6. The computer will prompt you to either use the files already on your disk (recommended). Or, you will get a prompt telling you that you need to insert your Windows program disk.

  7. Now, after completing #6 above click on the Advance Tab (still under the Regional and Language Options) and in panel "Languages for non-Unicode programs" . In the drop-down box select Hebrew. (for Vista users see #9)

  8. Find the check-box that says "Apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile" and check the box if there are others who use your machine who may also need Hebrew.

  9. Vista/Windows7 Users: From the Control Panel choose “Regional and Language Options” then click on “Change System Local”. Press “continue”. In the drop down box  choose “Hebrew(Israeli). Then it will say to reboot.

  10. When your computer tells you that you must restart your computer for the new settings to take effect, click YES.

 

That's it! You're done. You will not have to do this again.

The Hebrew used in flash card drills will now display properly.
