Hebrew Blessings .... בּרכות

Jewish "blessings" or "praise of God"  for children and adults.

While colloquially we refer to בּרכות   as "blessings",

they are really statements of praise of God.

Praise for His creations and for the commandments He has given.

Accomplish important goals by learning to

read, understand and use these בּרכות

  • Add an important dimension to your participation in home, synagogue and holiday ritual observances by learning the nineteen blessings included in this software.

  • First learn the recurring opening lines of the different kinds of בּרכות  and then the lines that are unique to each specific בְּרָכָה
  • As you are introduced to the vocabulary of the בּרכות, audio is provided to help you master the reading and pronunciation of the text. Illustrations and explanations give context to what you are learning. "Reading hints" and graphics aid in developing visual associations with the meaning of each blessing.

  • Each בְּרָכָה is first taught with a simplified use of nikkud (removing degeshim that don't affect pronunciation, and the metheg). Once you are familiar with the text, you then have the opportunity to practice reading the text with full nikkud,  as the words appear in the Siddur (the prayer book.

  • Knowing the meaning of what you are saying, as you recite a בְּרָכָה is an important aspect of observance. It is easier to feel "kavanah" (spiritual concentration and intent) when you understand what your are saying.

Alternative translations are included, when applicable, since the בּרכות are often translated differently. These differences may reflect a slight change in emphasis in the understanding of selected Jewish concepts.

For example: The בְּרָכָה before drinking wine on the eve of Shabbat.

בורא פרי הגפן

creating the fruit of the vine, or  Creator of the fruit of the vine

      More Details:

  • Become comfortable reciting each   בְּרָכָהout loud as you work at your own pace. Recordings can also be saved for submission to teachers for evaluation.
  • Everyone has had the experience of trying to find their place in the Siddur when first learning how to read Hebrew. A fun scanning exercise helps you learn to correctly "hear"  the spoken words and then find the matching text.

PRINTABLE BOOKLET FOR USE IN CLASS
