The  self-paced lessons are designed to be easily completed in sessions from 10 to 20 minutes.

 

  • The flashcard software units enable you to learn essential words and phrases used in the synagogue, in the home, on Shabbat and holidays, at life cycle and Jewish community events in a few easy steps.  Hebrew heritage vocabulary, arranged in the flashcard "decks", can be chosen either in pre-determined decks, or with words chosen by you or a teacher.

  • As you learn vocabulary, short explanations about related Jewish concepts and values help you use and pronounce the words and phrases correctly.

  • Become familiar with the appearance and Hebrew names of thirty-six Jewish ritual objects (such as the Holy ark, prayer shawl,  pulpit, etc.). Pictures, Hebrew captions with audio and short explanations prepares you to recognize these objects and recognize and use their names.

  • You can learn to read the Hebrew alphabet, (before getting started learning the the vocabulary)  in five easily mastered lessons. Quality audio models the correct pronunciation of all Hebrew included in this software.

  • "The arrow shows you the way" as you learn to write the Hebrew letters in script or block form using the Hebrew letter "drawing" program.

  • As you study the vocabulary, choose slow or normal speed for the audio. You can click on  letters and words to hear them pronounced again.

  • Record yourself as you practice reading the words aloud.

  • As you advance in your reading skills,  practice reading from the Scroll of Ruth. You can click on each line of the reading for audio.

  • Chapter One is chanted to illustrate the trope used when reading from  the Scroll of Ruth on the holiday of Shavuot .
  • After listening to the audio, record yourself as you read the same line. Recordings can be saved and emailed to teachers.

  • Sharpen your reading skills as you become familiar with favorite proverbs in Hebrew. Each Hebrew proverb  is read aloud and  an English translation is provided. A table of contents enables you to navigate to the proverb of your choice.

  • The correct  way in which to form each letter is demonstrated with a moving arrow as you learn to write the letters of the alphabet. Use the drawing pad on the screen to practice writing each letter with your computer mouse.

  • Practice writing words you have learned in the flash card drills and learn to spell the words. The words from your chosen deck appear on the screen as your writing model. This unit also builds oral recognition skills as the words are read aloud.

  • Two units provide practice in using the Israeli Hebrew keyboard. This practice also promotes recognition of the names and shapes of the Hebrew letters.
